LiqPay integration & automation

Card, Privat24, Apple Pay and Google Pay — every payment method on one checkout page

LiqPay is PrivatBank's payment service: a customer pays by card, Privat24, Apple Pay, Google Pay, QR code or in instalments, all on one checkout page. We connect LiqPay to your site or CRM, set up the option to hold funds on a customer's card until an order is confirmed, and check the whole flow with test keys before real money moves.

What we connect

  • Every popular payment method on one checkout page: Mastercard/Visa cards, Privat24, Apple Pay, Google Pay, QR code, FacePay24, instalments and an invoice sent to email — the customer picks whatever is convenient.
  • A receipt can be sent straight to the customer's email — no manager has to type it up and send it by hand.
  • Money can be held on a customer's card until an order is confirmed, instead of being charged right away — useful when stock still needs checking.
  • Recurring charges for subscriptions and memberships — the customer doesn't need to re-enter card details every billing cycle.
  • One payment can be split between several recipients automatically — handy when an order really covers several suppliers or partners at once.
  • A separate set of test keys lets us run the whole payment flow before launch, without moving real money.
  • We connect LiqPay to your CRM and cash register: LiqPay itself doesn't fiscalise receipts directly, so a receipt reaches Checkbox through the AssetPayments module rather than a direct link.
  • We set up an automatic check of the payment status update, so an order in the CRM switches to "paid" by itself instead of a manager marking it.

Automation scenarios

01

An order needs stock checked before charging the card

Before the card is charged right at checkout, and if the item isn't actually in stock, the money has to be manually refunded.

After LiqPay holds the money on the customer's card, and it's charged only once the order is confirmed.

02

A customer pays for a subscription every month

Before the customer has to open the site and re-enter card details every billing cycle, and misses payments if they forget.

After LiqPay charges the recurring payment on schedule by itself, once the subscription is set up.

03

One order actually covers several suppliers

Before a marketplace or agency receives the whole payment and then works out by hand how much goes to each supplier.

After LiqPay splits one payment between several recipients automatically, by rules set up in advance.

04

A customer asks for proof of payment

Before a manager looks up the payment and sends a confirmation by hand.

After LiqPay can send the receipt to the customer's email on its own, right after the payment goes through.

05

The payment flow needs testing before launch

Before testing feels risky because a mistake could charge a real card.

After a separate pair of test keys runs the exact same flow with no real money moving, so we catch problems before go-live.

How it works technically

For those who want to check: each point links to the official documentation page it comes from.

  • Every request to the LiqPay API is signed: the signature is base64(sha3-256(private_key + data + private_key)), where data is the JSON request itself, base64-encoded.

  • LiqPay Checkout supports these payment methods: Privat24, Apple Pay, Google Pay, QR-code payment, Mastercard/Visa cards, FacePay24, tokens, self-service payment terminals, instalments and an invoice sent to email.

  • The Checkout API supports different payment types through the action parameter: pay (direct charge), hold (two-stage payment — funds held on the card), subscribe (recurring payment), paydonate (donations), split_rules (splitting one payment between several recipients), apay/gpay (Apple Pay / Google Pay).

  • The payment status is delivered to the server_url as a POST request with data and signature parameters; to confirm the callback is genuine, the receiving server has to recalculate the signature itself using the same algorithm and private key, and compare it with the one received.

  • For testing, LiqPay issues a separate pair of test (sandbox) keys prefixed sandbox_; using them never charges or credits real money.

Limits

Saving a customer's card for future automatic charges without an immediate payment is a private API method — it's available only to merchants holding a PCI DSS certificate of the matching level, not by default to every account. The payment signature algorithm is sha3-256; older examples floating around the internet that use sha1 are outdated.

Questions

Can a customer pay in instalments through LiqPay?
Yes — instalments are one of the payment methods available right on the LiqPay checkout page, alongside cards, Privat24, Apple Pay, Google Pay and QR-code payment.
Can money be held on a customer's card and charged later, once we confirm the order?
Yes — that's the hold payment type. Money is held on the card first, and the actual charge happens only once we confirm the order is ready to go.
How do we make sure a payment notification really came from LiqPay and not a forgery?
LiqPay sends the payment status together with a control code. We recalculate that same code on our server with the same private key and compare it with what arrived — if they don't match, we don't trust the notification.
Can we test the whole payment flow without charging real money?
Yes — LiqPay issues a separate pair of test keys. Every step of the flow works exactly the same way, but no real money is ever charged or credited.
